Why did all cars fail in simulation of crash with SUV?

It is highly important that consumers shouldn’t rely solely on car crash tests. There are other factors that should determine whether cars are safe or not.

For example, over recent years, certain tests have determined that SUVs aren’t very safe cars because of the fact that they have a much higher gravitational point.

If you want to purchase an SUV, you might want to reconsider because of the fact that the gravitational force that SUVs maintain cause a much higher chance of rollovers on the road.

If room is what you’re looking for in a car, consider purchasing a roomy sedan. There are other substitutes to purchasing SUVs. Don’t forget that pickup trucks aren’t the safest cars out there either.

A side-impact crash test with a barrier that is 12 inches higher than what is currently used by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is currently in development.

Russ Rader, the spokesperson for IIHS, claims, “We expect few cars will be able to pass the new test.” He also added that they are currently sharing results of the preliminary tests with car makers but not with the public.

Rader claims, “We know that manufacturers are doing side-impact testing in advance of this program to see how their vehicles will perform. Non one wants to be singled out as having poor performance in a crash test.”

In order to protect the head and add additional strength in the doors to improve vehicle safety, Rader claims that vehicle manufacturers could add side air bags. With these adjustments, they will also do better in tests.

Rader claims, “We know from real-world crash data that when you have a high-riding vehicle like an SUV hitting a low-riding car in a side impact that the heads of the occupants of the car are at serious risk. What side curtain air bags do is reduce the likelihood of serious injuries.”

The president of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Brian O’Neill, claims, “All of these tests demonstrate that people can survive serious side-impact crashes in the real world because head air bags prevent their heads from striking rigid objects.”

Rader claims, “Certainly auto makers are making great strides to do better in the most common type of fatal crash – and when we have results form the new side-impact program we hope there will be improvements there as well.”
