What kind of impact does arson have on insurance companies?
There are different types of arsons that can be caused deliberately and caused by nature. A deliberate fire set-up results in crime in all states. Insurers try to stop any arson because of the damage it on only property. It also puts at risk of people living in that property. Homeowners insurance may increase significantly because of the arson incidents.
Because of fire set-up, insurance companies and new computer-modeling programs make further investigations on suspected arson. Arson is very dangerous and from times can be seen as catastrophe. Arson brings money losses in million of dollars. It destroys insured property, buildings, churches, vehicles, factories and anything it touches. As much as it damages properties, it also kills many people. Those arsonists usually end up arrested.
Arsonists are usually motivated by drugs and vandalism. Children also can be the cause of the arson fires. Many of them could have been caused unintentionally. Parents should be more aware of keeping their children from matches and anything that causes fire and they should warn them what kind of danger it might cause. That may be the first stop of prevention of arson caused by children.
Vandalism occurs even in the church and funeral structures area. According to statistics of 2004, 36,500 fires were intentionally set up. Cost for property damage resulted in $714 million dollars, even more than in 2003. Juveniles are the ones who also get involved in arson arrests. The bigger population living in the city, the more arson rates are.
Arson in structures is always reported in the news. Other types of arson include arson in the woods near the people’s living area. Arson is usually occurred because of too much heat and it gets extinguished by people on the helicopters. But natural fires occurred because of the heat is not as costly as intentionally set fires.
Insurance companies have an interest not only in detecting but also in preventing fire. In order to get money from insurers, a claimant makes deliberate arson of their houses but insurers refuse to pay a claim set up by a claimant. That can be called an arson fraud. Whether it is fraud or not, the insurer would still owe amount of the remaining payments on the outstanding mortgage. But fires that were caused by revenge or vandalism claims to be a legitimate claim.
Fires can be done by organized and drug dealers. It can be made as profit for them. Things like fraud, vandalism, revenge, pyromania and mental illness are the factors of deliberate set arsons. A creation of the research program by Federal Arson Law helped to improve arson investigations, and study the cause of the deliberate set fire such as fraud, civil unrest, drug trafficking, and domestic violence.
