Will expensive cars cost me a lot of money on my auto insurance?

Purchasing expensive cars is a choice that should be well-planned out. Keep in mind that when purchasing expensive cars, insurance will cost you a lot of money. For example, a Mercedes S-class recently won the race in costing insurers money. Were you thinking about purchasing yourself that nice German car? Think again.

Here are the problems that you are going to face when purchasing an expensive car:

  • high premiums
  • expensive auto parts
  • high average loss payments per claim
  • theft
  • maintenance
  • expensive cars are usually not very fuel-efficient
  • getting a policy with enough coverage for this expensive car

When purchasing an expensive car, such as the Mercedes S-Class, be careful about your coverage.

Fred Heiler, public relations manager at Mercedes-Benz Corp. claims, "We are a target for the ultra professionals who put [the cars] on a boat and sent them overseas.  They're never recovered. They're not often taken on joyrides or sent to chop shops. When our cars are stolen, they're gone gone.'

You see, according to Heiler, a Mercedes is a car that is very appealing to the eye of a thief, just as it is appealing to the eye of a consumer. A Mercedes is a car of high quality, which is why it needs particular care.

Because it is so appealing to the eyes of many thieves, you are going to have to purchase special gadgets that will drive thieves away. These gadgets probably consist of special alarms that will probably be offered to you at the dealership itself.

Kim Hazelbaker, HDLI senior vice president claims, "If you see someone driving into an airport long-term parking lot, you've learned a lot about the person, haven't you? The theft of new vehicles is not a chop shop operation. Vehicles are stolen to order and shipped overseas.'
