College Students Get Health Plans

What exactly are you going to do when you find out that your kids are going to go to college, pick a dorm and pick out their freshman classes before you even had a chance to say goodbye? Protect them!

Frankly, there is a thing known as a college health plan. Considering the fact that they will only be protected with you until the ages of 20 through 24, it's probably a good idea to sign them up for a college health plan.

Some college health plans not only well protect the student, but are also subsidized by the tuition. This can very well save the student's parents money.

Before signing up for any college health plan, be sure to find out

What services are presented free or at low cost in a campus health clinic?
Does the plan cover emergency room visits without preceding approval?
Can the student get coverage during summer break, even if they are not taking classes?
Will the student have protection during vacation?
Does the plan make the most competent healing facilities in the institution community easily reached?
What conditions are not included?
Can the student use any provider, or is this plan an HMO?

Medical conditions that already exist can create problems:

Even when the student is covered under another plan, people often buy a college's health insurance. They do so probably because of the problem of obtaining referrals across states (Various HMOs require referrals for some visits).

Insurance companies can keep out pre-existing conditions from healing. Before signing up for college health insurance, make sure that it doesn't have "blanket disability'. What this means is that it won't cover certain medical conditions that already existed.
