Congress in Talks Regarding Health Insurance

With the Democrats now in charge of Congress, one of the problems that has been brought to the forefront is the millions of Americans who do not have health care coverage. Although Congress is looking for ways to help, they are also attempting to avoid problems that could occur from interfering with individual state efforts.

Since there has not been any progress taking place at the federal level, many states have decided to take this matter into their own hands. Most notably, California and Massachusetts are moving forward on their own. There are more than 46 million Americans who are currently without health insurance. It is safe to say that this is a problem that needs to be corrected as soon as possible.

In recent news, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger announced a plan that will require every resident of the state to have health insurance coverage. Additionally, he is looking for ways to extend coverage to over 6 million residents that are currently without insurance. The main feature of this plan is that insurers would not have the right to deny coverage based on factors such as preexisting conditions or age.

Over the next few months expect to hear a lot about this problem by both Congress and state officials. This is one of the biggest problems plaguing the United States, and there are many people working towards finding a solution. If Congress fails to solve this problem more and more states will take notice and be forced to deal with this issue on their own.
