Auto Insurance
What are some problems I am going to face with insurance while I am away on my summer vacation?
When you are on vacation, insurance is probably the last thing you want to worry about. However, insurance is one of the necessities in life that we must all face. Here are some scenarios that might occur on your vacation and here's how to take care of them:
-
You are rear-ended by another driver with significant damage to your vehicle and minor injuries on your spouse and children.
If you live in a no-fault state - Florida, Kansas, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New York, Pennsylvania, Colorado, Hawaii, Kentucky, Michigan, New Jersey, North Dakota or Utah - and if the accident occurred in one of those states, then your medical payments coverage (MedPay) or your personal injury protection (PIP) will cover the medical protection for you and your family members.
-
You are hit by a driver who doesn't and isn't required to have auto liability insurance and he is responsible for the collision.
You can make a claim on you uninsured motorist coverage to pay for medical expenses. If the place where you got hit refuses to pay for this coverage, then you have to make a claim on your collision coverage. Contact your insurer and ask about what you can do with the terms of your policy, when this does happen.
-
Everything in your hotel room has been stolen, including all of your personal property.
Your homeowners insurance will probably cover most or all of the stolen things. Most homeowners policies will be able to cover all of your personal belongings while they were stolen "off site'.
-
Your child was badly injured by falling on some rocks and serious medical help is needed in the emergency room.
According to Richard Coorsh, a spokesperson for the Health Insurance Association of America, most policies will be able to cover visits to the emergency room, no matter where the accident occurs. However, if you have a managed care plan and require extensive medical attention, you might not be covered. It is highly recommended to contact your local insurance agent and ask what your health insurance policy is entitled to and if you will have coverage in case something like this does occur.
-
Someone hits your car when you are backing your vehicle out of a crowded restaurant.
Your auto liability insurance will probably cover you in all accidents, and where these accidents take place usually doesn't matter. However, all policies are different and making sure that you will be protected in a case like this is crucial.
