Being Careful Choose Coverage From Those You Trust

Picture this: You're driving in broad daylight. You drop off your loved ones at work, then turn and taxi your vehicle into the main road. Suddenly, a truck going too fast smashes into your car. It causes major damage to the body and the windows. It ends up as quite a mess, and may take several days to repair.

Since you were not the one at fault in this car crash, you would expect that insurance would definitely be able to assist you by covering at least part of the damage, just as the truck driver's insurance provider will offer to provide some support. You call your agent, explain the situation, and they pledge to help you, as you are one of their most valued clients for several years now.

You'd expect them to provide you a check that can clear out the repair bill in no time, just as you expect of any insurance company. And yet, what happened is that the agent you contacted didn't do that. Instead, he asked questions, conducted an investigation, and did all manner of other activities to delay the payment time.

The agent sent people to check if your eyes are in good condition, or if you were drinking at the time. The company, via your agent, starts to question if you are updated on your payments, and demands you state exactly when these payments were made. Your agent stopped giving you straight answers, and before long you'd have already spent a good amount of your own money to get the vehicle repaired, which is a major source of stress even if the company does pay in the end.

This story isn't that new: Anecdotes of delaying tactics done by insurance companies and their agents have been told several times over. This dubious approach to insurance payouts has been done before, with so many people looking to these firms for deserved help. The company starts to tip-toe and drag their feet when it comes to paying you what is due. In this hypothetical case, it was fortunate that only the car was damaged. What if it was a question of accident coverage, and the potentially greater and more essential expenses that an accident would incur?

These nightmares happen sometimes because of the failure to see how the company works, as well as not being able to work with people you can trust. After all, something as important as the security of one's loved ones or property can't just be in the hands of people you don't know.

Take the time to know the people you work with. Then, you can really rest easy.
