Did your Insurance Broker Dupe you?
Have you recently attempted to purchase insurance through a local broker? Did you see their ad in a newspaper and decide to give them a try? If so, you may have made a huge mistake. With all of the competition from online brokers and service sites, not all local insurance brokers are acting in an ethical manner. In turn, they are duping their clients out of plenty of money. This results in the client getting stuck with the wrong policy, and the broker making off into the night like a bandit!
There are many ways that a local insurance broker can and will dupe you if you are not careful. First off, you need to know how their business works. A broker has a network of insurance companies that they work with. When a client comes to them, they call these companies to secure quotes for you. If you happen to buy a policy from them, they will get paid directly from the insurance company. Doesn't it look as if you are making out? After all, you are getting help finding a policy without having to pay for it.
If you look deeper into the practice of some brokers, you may find that they are making money on your lack of knowledge. For instance, it only makes sense that they will attempt to sell you the policy that will make them the most money. Remember, not every insurance company pays brokers the same commission. If they are to compete with online services, they need to sell you the policy that will make them the most money. And unfortunately, this is not always the one that is best for you.
Additionally, your local insurance broker may not be setup with every insurance company; even if they tell you that they are. Once again, this means that you are getting the short end of the stick because they are not shopping you around to every available company. Instead, they are only talking with those who are in their network.
It is a shame to think that some insurance brokers are making big money off of unsuspecting clients. Although some brokers in your area may be honest and trustworthy, how will you ever know? Before you decide to use a local broker, do yourself a favor and see what an online service can do for you. You may find out that the buying process is more enjoyable and less stressful.
