Believe it or not, millions of Americans view health insurance as an option, not a necessity. Do you know the reason for this? Simply put, they are right. When it comes down to it, Americans do not have to carry any sort of health insurance coverage; the law does not state this. With that being said, anybody who sees health insurance as an option is doing something wrong. Sure, you do not need to have coverage, but if you think this way, you are putting yourself in a precarious position.
Those who do not have health insurance think that they are doing themselves good because they are saving a few dollars each month. And for the time being, this may work out just fine. Unfortunately, over time things can and will change. If you do not have health insurance and happen to get sick or injured, you will then be fully responsible for every bill that you incur. As you can imagine, this can cost way more than the money that you saved over the years.
At this time, it is not mandatory for every American to have health insurance. This may change when the new president takes office, but even then, it is safe to say that their may be loopholes that will be exploited.
All in all, it is up to the people to understand that health insurance should be viewed as a major lifestyle benefit as opposed to an option. There are many ways to receive coverage, and every American should exercise each available option before deciding that they are helpless. More times than not, a solution will be available.
