What to do about Health Insurance in the New Year

As you may have heard there are more than 47 million Americans without health insurance. This is something that many news outlets are talking about on a regular basis. Additionally, quite a few consumers have this on their mind as well. This is particularly true among those who don't have health insurance or feel that they may be joining this group in the near future for one reason or the next. What type of situation are you going to be facing in the new year?

If you currently have health insurance coverage, and feel confident about it staying in place, you should not have to make many, if any, changes in 2009. But on the other hand, not everybody is going to be in the same position. There is a good chance that a change or two will need to be made soon enough.

For example, some companies are getting rid of group health insurance effective January 1, 2009. Are you facing this situation? If so, you need to find a way to buy coverage on your own. And remember, you cannot afford to wait. If you know you are losing your current health insurance coverage you need to find a replacement at once. The longer you wait the more of a risk you are taking.

No matter what you need to have a good idea of what your health insurance situation looks like for the new year. Do you need to make any changes? Can you leave well enough alone for the time being? Once you know your current situation and have an idea of what may change you can get every detail in line so you can enjoy the new year from a health insurance point of view.
