Can Healthcare Mandates really work?

If you are following the race for the Democratic presidential nomination, you are probably aware that Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are both interested in some sort of healthcare mandate. With that being said, their plans differ in several ways. Before you think about anything else, you should consider one important question: would a healthcare mandate really work? In other words, is this something that Americans would be willing to put up with?

Once you answer that question, you should then consider the stance that Clinton and Obama are taking. On one side of things, Senator Clinton feels that it is necessary to place a mandate on all Americans. In other words, if you live in the United States it will be your duty to carry some sort of health insurance coverage.

Obama on the other hand does not have such a strong stance. He feels that children should be required to have health insurance, but adults should be able to make their own decision. Many people feel that this is the better of the two options for a variety of reasons. What do you think?

When it comes down to it, putting a mandate on health insurance is sure to ruffle some feathers. After all, this is not the way that the United States typically operates. The closest thing the US has to this is a law that states that drivers must carry car insurance. Will this work when it comes to health insurance? If either Clinton or Obama wins the presidency, the United States is going to learn the answer to this question soon enough. For now, every American should think long and hard about their feelings on healthcare mandates.
