What are the bad news about health insurance for young male workers?
According to the Center for National Policy (CNP), the news isn’t good for young male workers between the ages of 21 to 29 because of the fact that the number of workers in that age group had group health insurance through their employers plummet from 1979 to 1998.
74 percent of young male workers had group health insurance through their own employers in 1979, according to CNP, a nonprofit, nonpartisan public policy organization based in Washington D.C. This number dramatically decreased to 49 percent by 1998.
From these numbers, I believe that it is pretty obvious that young male workers aren’t very likely to get the coverage that they need. However, there are exclusions to these numbers where the young male workers will be able to get the coverage that they need through their employers without much hassle.
According to a recent study based on data from the Current Population Survey results, authors claim that they used the collected data to gauge the extent of decline in employer-sponsored group health insurance across various wage groups, industries and occupations.
A recent study also concluded that health benefits that many people have all depend from their employers. Even though independent health care is expensive, they fail to realize that at times independent health care will be a better choice – particularly for groups that aren’t very likely to get the proper care from their employers anyway.
These particular groups include the young males who don’t have enough coverage. Other than getting health care from their employers, they should maybe consider purchasing an independent policy.
Here are some tips:
- Shop around: There really is no other better alternative to group health insurance other than individual health insurance. By shopping around, you will be able to compare prices, compare coverage and in the end, get the coverage that will suit your needs and lifestyle. There are many health insurance plans out there each made to suit different needs.
- Shop around on the internet, and you’ll be able to save yourself some time and money. With today’s modern technology, companies can easily post information on websites and this information should help you thoroughly understand what kind of coverage there will be.
- Contact different insurance companies and let them know what type of coverage you need and in what budget you can afford.
- When filling out applications, don’t lie on them. Keep in mind that almost every single insurance company can access your personal information and see what illnesses you suffered from. Through this information they can also if you smoke or not.
- Make sure that you know what coverage you are going to need.
- When taking the medical exam, you might want to stop smoking for a day or two before the test and not drink any alcohol. By doing this, they might not find nicotine or alcohol in your blood.
