The Dreaded Premium Increase Letter

If you pay for your own health insurance, there is one letter that you do not want to get in the mail: the one that states that your premium is going to be increasing. In today’s day and age, it seems as if these letters are becoming commonplace. In fact, some are finding a letter like this in their mailbox once every few months or so. As you can imagine, this can be a disappointing situation, and one that you need to deal with right away.

Why are so many health insurance companies increasing premiums? If you ask any of them, you are sure to get the same answer: to make up for rising costs in the healthcare industry. Generally speaking, as prices increase for healthcare, such as testing and office visits, health insurance companies will do the same as a way to keep their profits up. While it would be nice if insurers would think about the consumer for once, this very rarely happens. Instead, they raise prices and hope that the majority of people will agree to stay on board.

If you are tired of dealing with regular increases, you have a couple of options. One, you can decide to switch to another health insurance provider. Just remember, this may not make the situation any better. You could sign on with another company at a lower rate, and find a letter in your mailbox soon enough. Simply put, you never know what is going to happen in the future. Your other option is to stick it out until things settle down. There is hope that the next president will be able to better the health insurance and healthcare industries. If this happens, you may find that your premium levels off, or hopefully takes a dive.

Keep one thing in mind: if you receive a premium increase letter you are not the only one. These letters are going out to thousands of consumers every month.
