Uninsured Drivers in Texas Beware
If you are a licensed driver in the United States, you need to have car insurance; this is the law. Unfortunately, there are many people who do not have insurance for one reason or the next. In turn, this increases rates for everybody who does pay a premium. The state of Texas has implemented a new plan that will definitely help to cut down on the drivers who are uninsured.
Studies have shown that one in five Texas drivers is uninsured. After much delay, the state is finally ready to put into effect its program for cracking down on these drivers. To start, Austin will be the first city to take part in the verification program. If everything goes as expected, Dallas will begin with the program a couple months later. State officials are hoping that when everything is said and done that the entire state will be using the program.
The new program will allow police officers and state inspection stations to instantly verify whether or not a driver is insured. Through the use of a central database, within seconds the inquiring party will be able to determine whether or not somebody is covered. It is thought that more than four million drivers in Texas are uninsured. Through the use of this program, it is safe to say that many of these people will be scared into purchasing coverage. And if they are not, their chances of being nabbed by the authorities is much greater.
Although Texas has required drivers to have car insurance for many years, some seem to think that this is a joke. As long as the program is successful in Austin, there is no reason to think that it will not spread throughout the rest of the state within a year. If Texas has success with this type of plan, more and more states will surely begin to look into following suit. When it comes down to it, cutting back on the number of uninsured drivers will save money for both consumers and insurance companies.
